People with old age tend to take a long view, of course, because we have seen so much. I think I have the solution to stopping the greed and power-seeking behavior that causes wars.
Let the talented propagandists in the world get together and create the news headlines, saying that our entire planet is being attacked from space, enemies from another planet that we never before considered to have life.
Pumping this story as fact over and over shouldn't be that hard, based on recent events. Add in an underlying understanding that we on Planet Earth must band together. It might possibly make more people aware that we have more in common than any differences between us.
Of course, there will always be someone who will figure a way to try and make money on the situation.
Humanity is not going to survive at the current pace of fighting each other over everything from religion to perceived entitlement.
"He started it!" is what little kids say. What we should actually be doing is banding together to address planetary issues, certainly including saving a livable environment.
However, I fear that this opportunity will fall by the wayside and arrogant and short-sighted thinking will win out as usual.
